Step 2 Your first day
Staying in an Airbnb in Seoul
No front desk means a few things are up to you: the address, the door codes and the trash. Sort them out before you land and the flat feels like home.
Ask your host for these five things
- The full address in Korean, with the building name and your unit number. Copy it from the booking or the host's message.
- The building door code (the shared front door) and your unit door code.
- Check-in and check-out times, and whether you can drop bags early.
- Where and when the trash goes out: every building and district does it a little differently.
- The Wi-Fi name and password.
Keep the Korean address one tap away
Korea uses road-name addresses: a road name plus a building number, then your unit. The Korean version is the one taxi drivers, delivery apps and maps read best.
- Save it in our Taxi Show Card. It stays on your phone, and you can show it big to any driver.
- Paste it into Naver Map once and save the place, so "home" is always one tap away.
- For food delivery, add the building door code in the delivery note, or show the card below to the rider.
Three kinds of trash, kept apart
1. General trash: the official paid bag
Everything that isn't food or recycling goes in a standard trash bag (์ข ๋์ ๋ดํฌ), sold at convenience stores and supermarkets. Prices differ by district.
2. Food waste: separate
Food scraps go in a food-waste bin, a food-waste bag or, in big apartment blocks, a machine you pay with a transport card like T-money. Which one depends on your building and district.
3. Recycling: sorted and clean
Separate paper, cans and metal, plastic, glass, vinyl and styrofoam. Put clean vinyl in a clear bag.
When
- General trash and recycling go out from sunset to midnight on your district's collection days.
- Food waste: on the set day, until 22:00.
- Dumping trash the wrong way can bring a fine of up to โฉ1,000,000 (rules vary by district). When in doubt, ask your host.
Quiet at night
Korea's rule on noise between flats treats 22:00โ06:00 as night, with lower limits than daytime. Seoul's guide for residents also asks people not to run the washing machine or vacuum early in the morning or late at night.
Footsteps carry in Korean apartment buildings. Slippers indoors help (local tip).
Where to leave your bags
- Subway station lockers: in about 270 stations. Seoul lists 4 hours at about โฉ2,000โ4,400 depending on size and day. Pay at the locker kiosk or in the T-Locker app.
- T-Luggage: staffed storage and same-day bag delivery between some subway stations and Incheon Airport. At the airport the counters are on 3F (T1 opposite check-in B, T2 opposite H).
- Ask your host first: some let you drop bags early.
Find your two neighbors on day one
Search Naver Map for ํธ์์ (convenience store) and ๋นจ๋๋ฐฉ (self-service laundry). Convenience stores sell trash bags, top up transport cards and are often open late. A laundromat saves your last clean shirt.
Is my booking legal?
Korea has a homestay license for city homes rented to foreign tourists (์ธ๊ตญ์ธ๊ด๊ด ๋์๋ฏผ๋ฐ์ ). Airbnb asks hosts in Korea for their license details, and removed officetel and goshiwon listings. If something feels wrong with a listing, contact Airbnb, or call 1330 for travel help.
